HELLO! My name is Billy Diamond. I have been in the business of entertainment since 1975. Since that time I’ve had the privilege of traveling full time all across the United States, performing & speaking, in both small and large venues (from banquet rooms to civic centers). In addition to being a performer and mental health speaker I am also a single dad to two amazing kids. I’m a magic creator, a craftsman, a prop fabricator, and… a total branding geek.
What most people probably do not know about me is… my passion for marketing and branding in business started in 1980, when I was just 12 years old. That’s right. Alongside my love and my desire to do magic as a career I fell in love with marketing. In fact, I often tell people that I was probably one of the only 12 year olds to walk into a magic shop and instead of buying another trick I opted to purchase a two inch thick book on how to promote my magic business better than my competition. Marketing & branding has been a love for me ever since!
Because everyone told me I couldn’t have a career as an entertainer… I started to believe the lie and it was ‘strongly suggested’ that I find a career path, by taking up some sort of vocation.
Since I was still in high school, learning how to be an advertising guy wasn’t an option, nor was it on the list of any vocational classes I would be interested in. I was being pressured (and conditioned) to become just like everyone else who had to graduate and go work for someone else, a “real job”, just like society expects it to be. My idea of being a magician and an entrepreneur was halted by the non-supporters of my dream in which to be a full time entertainer. So, I ended up choosing the closest career path I could get to advertising — Graphics and Printing.
Because I believe that everything in our lives happens for a reason and a season I have been able to take my little detour in the printing industry and turn it into something very unique and beneficial. Having graphics and printing experience is something that I learned goes hand-in-hand with my love of marketing and branding and the entertainment industry.
In my earlier years as a press operator of a large 6 color Heidelberg printing press (about 50 feet long)…. I never gave up my dream or my entrepreneurial spirit. While I would love to say that magic was always my bread and butter (full time) the reality is that I had to pay the bills somehow. I am very open about this because I know there are many people out there plugging to be full time, doing what they love, working hard to follow their passion, and yet they feel beat up by the pressure of people telling them they can’t do it and to go ‘get a real job’. (You Can!!! Surround yourself with people who not only tell you can, but help you reach it).
Why should you trust me with your branding? First, after 4+ decades in the entertainment industry with 20 years in and out of the printing industry to stay afloat, doing what I am doing right now only makes sense — entertainment branding of others.
I know the entertainment industry very well from being an on-the-road full time entertainer. Over the years I have consulted with many performers and have provided a variety of guidance and show props for shows in over 72 countries around the globe, as well as, for NBC’s Law & Order: Criminal Intent, the A&E Channel, America’s Got Talent, Masters of Illusion, and other international shows.
As a bonus, I know the printing industry inside and out and have also grown from the days of working with film where I was also a stripper (relax….. the guy who preps the film for plate color separations). There are not too many facets of the printing industry that I have not done…. graphics design, copy writing, layout composition, pre-press, all sorts of folding machines, 36 station collators, die-cutting, and other bindery equipment, 1, 2, 4, and 6 color sheet fed presses, digital presses, printing estimator, printing sales, paper sales….. and the list goes on and on.
Today I do what I love! I’m my own boss. While I will always consider my greatest accomplish being a dad — I’m a working entertainer, a speaker, a consultant, a branding guy, and a custom prop fabricator. The branding side of the business allows me to share my passion and strengths and helps people by not only by encouraging them along the way….. anything is possible, but places me in a position to add value by — making your job easier… much easier!
